Welcome To The MEA Piano Studio

Hi, I'm Michelle Ayler, the founder and director of MEA Piano Studio. My goals are deeper than simply teaching piano lessons in Alexandria, VA – I want kids to discover, master, and love music.

My daughter took lessons from Michelle for one year, and had she wanted to stick with piano I absolutely would have stayed with Michelle. She was very friendly with my daughter, was genuinely interested in topics outside of piano (school, etc.) but most importantly her method of teaching piano worked really well with her. There are multiple opportunities for performances throughout the year, and the final recital was very well done - plenty of recognition so that even a beginner felt the accomplishment for her hard work.

About The Studio

With 60+ piano students enrolled at a given time, MEA Piano Studio is one of northern Virginia's largest piano schools. Michelle Ayler draws from her education at Duke Ellington School of the Arts (piano & composition) and Radford University (composition) to enrich students' lives through music, and you'll find our studio to be a friendly, welcoming environment where students have fun and learn the piano.

Ages I Teach

I focus on pre-college piano lessons, and I welcome students ages 4-17 into the studio. Young beginners will enjoy group classes, and as students improve, they can enroll in private piano lessons in Fairfax, VA or the surrounding area. Activities and curriculum are always age-appropriate.

What Lessons Are Like

Your child or high schooler will learn proper technique (hand position, posture, etc.), how to read music, how to play by ear, rhythm, how to compose a song, and most importantly, how to have fun at the piano! We use the Faber method in our piano classes, but I mix in more advanced repertoire as students advance. Young kids will also have a great time with games both at and away from the keyboard. I don't follow a "classical" or "pop" curriculum, so to speak – I teach fundamentals that will extend to any genre your child wants to pursue. Among other things, we study rhythms and different time signatures, how to read notes, how to create melodies, how to read chords, and other aspects of music theory. In short, I build a musical foundation upon which your child can pursue jazz, blues, rock, classical music, and more!
